I figured it was about time that I post some obscure music up in this janks!

Taylor Carson [myspace] (Rock / Pop / Acoustic) – saw this guy open for Willy Porter at Ashland Coffee & Tea. he was awesome, and represents VA. he has a few tracks for free on his site, though they don’t really do him justice. I’m going to see him again, same place, December 5. who’s in?

FAIR [myspace] (Indie / Rock / Alternative) – great chill Christian band. good luck finding it online though – it took me about a year.

Empires [myspace] (Rock / Soul / Garage) – a friend told me about these guys. awesome band, sounds something like The Killers mixed with Hot Hot Heat. oh and their whole album is free on their website, so go get it kthx.

William Tell [myspace] (Pop / Pop / Pop) – guy used to be in one of my favorite bands, Something Corporate. great little pop rocka.

Anthony Hamilton [myspace] (R&B / Soul / Hip Hop) – that’s right, I always got a little of that jam blood in me. I’ll post this one in honor of our President-elect, hah. this dude is real chill, check it… yo.

I alluded to this band in my last post with lyrics. I found Archie Star after I was recommended to listen to the former band of one of the members, October Fall. I highly enjoyed their sound – it was fresh – so I kept my eye on them when I heard they were starting this side project. here is my favorite song from their upcoming album Carry Me Home – the song is called “Pull Down the Moon”.

I never leave the light on much now
I get a feeling it’s maybe time for sleep
I got the cellular phone whispering I’m alone
I don’t know but baby it knows that you’re home

Now I’m not thinking enough
And I’ve been drinking too much
Maybe it’s time I take my chances
Speak clear, I’ve been right here where you left me, where you left me

And you used to treat me bad ’cause it’s all that you’re good at
And now you’re sticking around ’cause you think that I’ll hurt myself right now

And pull down the moon
Bring me back to any night with you
Turn all the lights off in the room
It’s my last chance with you
Pull down the moon now

You sound like a liar (it’s all that I’m good at)
But I like your smile let me see where it goes
And if it goes away (she don’t have to know)
We’ll just see where it goes

And if you treat me bad… can’t believe I just said that
And remember when we were young and my heart used to skip a beat with your hands all over me

And pull down the moon
Bring me back to any night with you
Turn all the lights off in the room
It’s my last chance with you
Pull down the moon now

Pull down the moon
Bring back to any night with you
Bring me back, come on and bring me back now

And pull down the moon
Bring me back to any night with you
Turn all the lights off in the room
It’s my last chance with you
Pull down the moon now

I never leave the light on much now
I get a feeling that maybe it’s time for sleep
I got the cellular phone whispering I’m alone
Alone, alone

Carry me, carry me home

this girl has a great voice, seriously. I don’t listen to much pop like this, but every now & then it’s good for a switch. hope you enjoy!

Time After Time

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

hello again fellow music lovers. today we’re checking out the band Quietdrive. they released their debut album When All That’s Left Is You a couple years ago, and when I finally heard it I was surprised they weren’t a big radio hit already. the single was “Rise from the Ashes” and they have a great cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time”, but here is my favorite track from the album:

Maybe Misery

You get around
You want me
You come around
You need me
But this time around
I won’t be back at all

But maybe misery
Is what I need to keep my sanity
And I don’t mean if things don’t go my way
I’ll be pleased to meet you

And maybe yesterday
Was the day that I could get away
Now today I’m stuck in sanity
And I’m pleased to meet you

the reason I decided to feature them today, is because they have a new album coming out in 3 weeks, Deliverance. and I can tell you, it’s good. I may or may not already have it [insert shady grin here]. it’s fun, upbeat, and definitely puts you in a bouncy mood. if I had theoretically heard the CD already, so far my favorite track might be.. well, the very first track:

Believe

believe that you’re always on my mind
believe that you got here just in time
i’m not listening
that you’re always on my mind
not this again

damn the lights the city at night
silent boycott of our lives
we are the town
the time is now
got one chance to paint it red
every night start a fight
find a cop to make it right
take a shot
make a grip
gonna shoot one from the hip

if you’re down with me then you must believe

take what you needed to take
jump its not far away
run from me they will never catch us
please come back to me they will never catch us

start your countdown timers now!

if you’ve ever scrolled through my iTunes library, you know how OCD I am about my music metadata. as in, when my hard drive crashes, I’m sad because all my ratings are gone (I rate every single track and use Smart Playlists for everything I do, building off genres, play counts, ratings, etc).

so, the last few times I’ve listened to the two Sanctus Real albums in my library, I wondered why I had most of the songs tagged as 4 stars – I thought I needed to fix the ratings. then I realized the problem – I actually needed to move some of them up to the special 5-star treatment! once you start listening to this band, it’s hard to stop.

Sanctus Real is a Christian rock band. their two most popular albums are “Fight the Tide” and “The Face of Love”. my favorite track is from the former – the lyrics are amazing:

Change Me

Did I change your mind with
What I said last night?
Did I break your heart by
Straying so far?
From what you have in mind
For my life?

Would you change me from
Who I’ve been lately?
‘Cause I know I’m nothing
Without you

Did my words betray the
Patience I once claimed
Can’t you see it in my face?
I need your grace

Would you change me from
Who I’ve been lately?
‘Cause I know I’m nothing
Without you

Would you save me from
The way I’ve been lately?
‘Cause I can’t see living
Without you

So would you speak to me!
And show me what I need!

Is it patience? Kindness?
All that’s in between?
Loving others,
The way you love me?

Would you change me from
Who I’ve been lately?
‘Cause I know I’m nothing
Without you

Would you break me from
The way I’ve been lately?
‘Cause I can’t see living
Without you

good stuff!

knock knock, Ratatat tat

mixing it up a bit into the rap world… want to hear some good beats? check out Ratatat.

Evan Mast and Mike Stroud are a couple white dudes who know how to make a decent rap tune sound great. to get a starting feel, check out the tracks “LEX” and “biggie prty…” (gotta love Biggie!) on the myspace player.

they offer a free download of their “Mixtape, Vol. 2″ on their myspace, which I highly recommend. my favorite track from this album is of Memphis Bleek’s “Alright”. check it!

thanks, Ryan, for recommending them to me a while back!
